How to Handle Any Type of Pest

Why You Should Never Underestimate Termites

Termites are one of the most widespread and invasive species of pest that you will find not only in Australia but around the world. There are many different types of species of termite, but the ones that spark fear in every homeowner across the country are those that target the timber of your house and business. Unfortunately, a lot of people assume termites are no big deal and easy to handle on their own, but that is simply not the case.

Here are a few reasons why you should never underestimate termites and why you need to use professional help to keep them under control.

Termites Love Water

While most land-based animals will drown if they are stuck underwater indefinitely, do not assume that just because you sprayed a termite location with water they will all run off. Termites, in fact, love moisture and that is actually what they are hunting out in your timber. That is why wood that has been infected by termites feels very old and worn out; all the moisture has been taken away. The only way to make sure that termites are dead is by using proper termite control from a trained professional.

Bug Spray Is Not A Solution

It is certainly true that bug spray can kill a couple of dozen, or maybe even a few hundred termites (if you use a full bottle or two), but it will not destroy the termite colony. It is an easy mistake to make, as bug spray is touted as being able to kill termites, which it does, but not on a level big enough that it will make a difference. As long as the queen survives, and you will struggle to find her, the colony will not be shaken. There really is no other way to flush out termites than with proper professional equipment.

They Could Have Been There Longer Than You Think

When you first spot termites it can be quite easy to think that you are seeing them as they enter your home for the first time, not that they have been around for months on end. More than likely, if you are seeing a couple of termites now they have been around you for at least a few weeks. That means delaying any reaction can be quite problematic and result in your home being destroyed even further from the inside before you can make sure these pests are destroyed.
